Last week, I stepped onto a stage with a story that began in pain.
Saturday night, that story became a win.
Metrova B. and I took home the Capital in Couture prize.
From one of the hardest chapters of my life to this: God, thank You.
Ubora Designs was born from my recovery journey with fibroids and endometriosis. What began as a personal need is now a vision to help women heal with dignity and create dignified work for seamstresses in Ghana. Even our fabric remnants will be upcycled into reusable sanitary pads so girls in Ghana can stay in school.
- To Alexis Ferguson, thank you for the vision for this program and for bringing it to life.
- To Sir Michael Honablue and Marijke Vandervennet of Global Billionaire magazine, thank you for all you do for the community.
- To Brandy Apostol, founder of our book club So Booked Up, and the leadership team, thank you for always advocating for us.
- To Bianca Rosarrio, thank you for asking for our favourite songs to ease our nerves.
- To my family, loved ones, and friends, thank you for your unwavering support and for cheering me on, even on dark days.
- To every career sponsor I’ve had, this moment is also for you. Thank you for advocating for me in rooms I wasn’t in, breaking ceilings, and ensuring my light was never dimmed.
To my mentors:
- Those who opened doors.
- Those who brought me along as their careers advanced.
- Those who fought for opportunities before I began working and lifted me so I could carry the torch.
-
Those who saw my gifts refused to box me in and encouraged me to soar while covering me so I could bloom.
- To Tom Bilyeu, thank you for creating an incredible community for entrepreneurs. To Delia Peterson, thank you for making sure we always have resources. Tom, your feedback during my “hot seat” reshaped my approach to entrepreneurship and helped me refine my gifts.
- To my online and in-person communities, thank you for accepting me: strengths, flaws, and all, from the side that notices patterns in seconds to the side that still can’t parallel park.
- To my doctors and therapist, thank you. Your care of my physical and mental health allowed me to stand pain-free and use my gifts for the greater good.
-
Thank you ALL for being destiny helpers. I pray you are rewarded a thousand times over for the goodness and grace you’ve shown me.
If you’re reading this and have ever been a destiny helper to anyone, thank you.
And to the other incredible finalists, Magda Khalifa, Natia Ramishvili, Lana Benzenyan Sukhman, and Nathalia Gillot Borden, PhD, what an honour to stand beside you! Your brilliance and courage remind me that this journey isn’t just about winning. It’s about showing up, sharing our gifts, and lifting each other higher.
⭐ This win isn’t just for Metrova and me.
⭐ It’s for every woman who has felt unseen in her healing.
⭐ Every girl who deserves to stay in school.
⭐ Every dreamer waiting for a sign. Take one step. The world needs your gift.
